HTX-202 Battery Replacement
Purchased at the Packwood, WA flea market. It had no antenna, a dead NiCd pack,
and a dead lithium memory battery -- produced 'Err1' message on startup.
'Function' and 'D' button combination while power-on to clear error.
Tested TX
and RX -- all else looked good with the radio.
Followed the WB3GCK article on replacing coin cell with holder.
However, I used a slightly different 99c ebay battery holder.
Radio seemed to work ok -- programmed memories, etc. But discovered no power (only a few mW) out on transmit!
Came across the KB8ZCJ info and
suspected it was the problem of the case ground.
Re-opened unit and proceeded as follows:
- Additional solder had already beeen placed at several of the described locations by a previous owner.
- First attempt to improve ground involved cleaning the inside of the case with a scotch brite pad, and carefully reassembling.
- Still no TX power.
- Opened case again -- another inspection of the board and review of the KB8ZCJ article made me suspect the area around the center screw.
- It looked like it had maybe chipped a bit of solder off. I flowed some spots and added about 1/16" in solder height.
- Reassembling the second time with the improved center screw solder pad brought a good ground contact and full power out.
I purchased a AA battery case and enjoyed several QSOs with the radio.
